Dear Parents / A Thuismitheoirí

Our school is certainly a place that is rich in talent, but also here at CBS Primary Tralee we acknowledge the idea that, while we are different, we are all the same too! Please have a read through our Newsletter to keep you up to date in what is happening in our school!!

School Hours of Opening – Am oscailte

We would just like to remind everybody of our official hours of opening-

School gates open to receive pupils from 8.30 a.m. and bell rings at 8:45 a.m.

Classes take place from 9.05 a.m. – 2.30 p.m. (1.30 p.m. for infants)

All pupils should be in their seats by 9.00 a.m.

Should you wish to contact a teacher, please do so during school hours (8:45am-2:30pm)

Traffic – Tráchta

I would be grateful to all our parents if you would keep the safety of all the school community foremost in your mind when driving and please avoid parking near the school gates. We want to again, say a special thank you to our school caretaker Jerome, for his guidance in getting the children across the road safely, at both the morning and after school times. Please avail of his assistance when crossing the road.

Seachtain na Gaeilge – Irish Week

Seachtain na Gaeilge will take place in our school on the 9th -13th of March. The week itself is one of the many important events in our school and an emphasis will placed on the promotion of Gaeilge within our school. Children from Junior Infants right up to 6th class will actively be ag caint as gaeilge throughout the week. Some classes will get the opportunity to buddy up and perform songs, poems and dance as gaeilge for other classes throughout the week with our Raidio CBS service- through the school intercom each day!

On Thursday 12th March we will hold our ‘Green Day’ and the whole school will be given an opportunity to dress up in their St. Patricks Day colours for the day to celebrate our ‘CBS St. Patrick’s Day’. Each class can choose to make hats, flags, badges during the week.

Multicultural week (Feb 9th – 13th)

We celebrated the great diversity of cultures in our school during Multicultural week. The children enjoyed dressing in traditional clothes or the colour of their flag, the drumming workshops, the parade, and especially the performance where children played instruments, sang songs and waved the flag of their family heritage.

World Book Day

We celebrate World Book Day on Thursday March 5th with lots of activities including storytelling, dressing up as characters from books, children bringing their favourite books to school, making bookmarks, reading stories and getting story books to keep. There will be Drop Everything And Read (DEAR time), story time and lots of other activities. Each child has received a voucher which can be exchanged for a book (or put towards the cost of a book) in bookshops.Classes also may visit O’Mahony’s bookshop with their World Book Day vouchers over the next week which is always very exciting.

Some classes have made a recent trip to the library to take out books. Over the coming months we hope to get every child signed up for library cards. It is a fantastic resource for the town so do bring your children along. They really enjoy it. Thank you all for your support in this. Lets get everyone reading!

School Library

Pupils and staff of our school have been doing an incredible job sorting through the books in our library, carefully deciding which ones to keep and which to remove over the past few weeks. We are excited to expand our collection in the coming weeks and give the library a much-needed makeover. Our goal is to create a welcoming reading space that will soon be open for all children to enjoy.

School Garden

Our school garden is going to be a hive of activity over the coming months. We are ordering seed potatoes for early sowing. We have composted our raised beds and are enjoying the first crop of daffodils and tulips peeping out through the ground. Several pollinator plants have been planted. Exciting times ahead!

Green Schools

We had an exciting assessment visit from Breda Moriarty (local Environmental Awareness Officer) last week and she was blown away by all our hard work on Biodiversity. She seemed very confident we will be awarded with a Green Flag very soon, so watch this space!

News from the Board

Our Board of Management will hold its next meeting in April. During this meeting, our Board will view and possibly ratify school polices in the areas of Substance Use and our school Safety Statement.  Reminder that all school policies are published on our school website (www.cbsprimarytralee.com)

Physical Activity

We are making a big push in the school to get our children more physically active. Physical activity is one of the most important things our children can do for their health. Being physically active can improve our brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles and improve our ability to do everyday activities. Some of the initiatives we are doing in the school include: The Daily Mile, teaching the fundamental movement skills, active classroom breaks, active homework and more fun physical activities.  Keep an eye on the school Facebook page!

Cross Country Running

Over the next week we will have boys and girls from 3rd-6th class representing the CBS Primary Tralee in cross country athletics. These courageous boys and girls represent themselves, their families, and the school extremely well. A special mention to all the parents and the staff members that come to cheer on and support our brave runners.

Wear Green for My Canine Companion!

Zorro and Daithí need your support.

School 5 aside Soccer Team

In the next few weeks, boys and girls from senior classes will be representing the school in the FAI Primary Schools competition.  Here at CBS, we’re all hoping with a bit of luck, the teams can bring some silverware back to the school!!

Confirmation – Lá an Easpaig

The Confirmation ceremony will take place on Friday 13th March at 11am.  It will be a very proud occasion for the entire school community, and I have no doubt that the pupils will represent our school brilliantly on the day.

First Communion – Comaoineach Naofa

First Communion will be on Saturday 9th May. Over the next few weeks, the boys and girls in second class will be preparing to make their First Confession. Many thanks to the CBS staff members for helping the children to prepare for the First Confession.
