Dear Parents
All primary schools have received new Government guidelines regarding children in 3rd – 6th Classes wearing face masks. I have shared a number of documents, from the Government and the Chief Medical Officer, with you on Microsoft Teams.
From today, Wednesday 1st December:
- All children in 3rd– 6th class are required to wear a face mask when in school.
- Parents should make sure your child brings a face mask to school with him/her – it would be advisable to bring a spare mask just in case one is lost, dropped or damaged. If your child loses his/her mask or if it is damaged during the day, the school will provide a mask for him/her.
- For hygiene purposes, it would also be advisable for your child to have a small plastic bag (sandwich bag) with him/her so that he/she can put the mask into the bag while having his/her lunch. He /she can also put the mask in the plastic bag when the class
- go to the yard.
- This measure, we are told, is being introduced on a temporary basis and will be reviewed at a later date.
Exemptions:
Some children will need to be exempt from wearing a mask because
- They have a medical condition or breathing difficulties,
- They are unable to remove the mask without assistance, or
- They have a special educational need and the wearing of a mask will be too upsetting for them.
Please note that if you wish to have your child exempt from wearing a face mask, you will require medical certification. You can send this to me via email, teams or drop it into the office.
Working Together
As always, I am recommending to parents to get in touch with me if you have any questions about this matter – we have spent the last two years working together and, as a result, our school community has been very successful in tackling this very challenging situation. All of the measures that we have implemented in our school are designed to keep us safe and to keep our school open. Let us continue to work together on this new safety measure and we hope it will help us to enjoy the next three weeks as we approach the Christmas Season.
